The “Golden Record” That Makes Voluntary Corporate Actions Easier
Despite the name, voluntary corporate actions can be deceptively complex.
While the process behind them seems straightforward — tender, exchange, redeem — the information presented to investors often isn’t. Conflicting data, delayed updates and manual workflows make it harder than it should be to understand what’s happening and act in time. Ironically, it ends up being, well, rather involuntary.
To meet this challenge, Clear Street re-engineered the voluntary corporate actions process and launched purpose-built technology for our custody platform.
The Golden Record
At the core of this platform is Aurum, Clear Street’s proprietary corporate actions data engine.
Aurum pulls in data from multiple sources, compares and arbitrates discrepancies and produces a single “golden record” of what a corporate action event actually is — not a vendor’s abstraction. That foundation matters. Cleaner data reduces errors across both mandatory and voluntary events, lowers operational risk and makes real-time processing possible — capabilities many other platforms cannot support.
With Aurum as the foundation, our system was rebuilt end-to-end: new backend services, a new customer UI in Studio and a new operations portal. This voluntary corporate action platform is now available to all Clear Street clients, with no restrictions or feature gating.
A Real-Time Solution
For sophisticated investors, this tech delivers both flexibility and clarity.
Users can make elections, cancel them or withdraw entirely, directly on the platform. Positions and electable quantities update in real time, eliminating delays caused by overnight batch processing that prevent investors from acting as markets move. Every action triggers immediate confirmation, supported by robust notifications ahead of deadlines, at submission and through completion.
The interface itself is intentionally simple. Events are presented visually, and quantities are automatically validated. The workflow is intuitive enough that there is no need to pick up the phone and call support — it just works. The result is greater transparency across all aspects of execution.
In a market where many firms still rely on outdated processes and fragmented tools, Clear Street’s voluntary corporate action solution is another way we’re designing for the future of trading.
From Strenuous to Sophisticated
Voluntary corporate actions shouldn’t be harder than the trade itself.
We built this platform to prove they don’t have to be.
